the13 is the only music experience of it's kind designed specifically for middle school musicians.
The original idea for the band was to offer 13 thirteen year old (average age) kids the opportunity to experience rehearsing and performing together and promoting their own rock and roll group. Though the mission is the same the format is changing to better serve the students involved.
Started in 1995, the program is now at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City. This season we will offer two groups, one for each semester of school. The groups will have 8 students each. This way each member will be more involved. A Basic group consists of: 2 guitar, 1 bass, 1-2 drum/percussion, 1 keyboard and 2 vocalists. Each session will be 10 weeks.
The program hasn't surpassed expectations...it has simply confirmed the belief that, with a little direction and encouragement, these musicians would really take off!

If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn."
